  • About
Cycle the Lakes is an annual favourite at Ronald McDonald House Charities and we are delighted to offer this challenge for the 20th Year. Choose from a leisurely 25km route or, keen cyclists can choose a more rigourous 100km. If you are keen but not quite able, find balance and cycle two loops around the scenic Blessington Lakes and complete 50k for our House. Set in the Wicklow Mountains, the Blessington Lakes cover 5000 acres water. The Lakes were formed 50 years ago by the building of the Poulaphouca Dam and hydroelectric station. The reservoir is the largest man made lake in Ireland and is a great base for RMHC's outdoor challenge. The road around the lake offers amazing views over the reservoir and the Wicklow Mountains. Cyclists will go around through historic villages such as Ballyknockan and Lacken. Meanwhile remembering why we offer this challenge 'to keep families close', we invite the cyclists to bring your families to support you across the finish line and be entertained on the grounds of The Avon. This is a fun day out in a beautiful setting and we will have refreshments for all our cyclists on the day. Registration includes a cycling shirt for the first 200 registered cyclists which is distributed on the day.
